Oil Under the Spark Plug Cover
Is the most likely cause a bad seal on the oil filler cap? When I took it off there was a significant amount of oil underneath. I replaced the cap seal. The old one was rock hard, and the new one felt like it sealed MUCH better.
I really just wondering what the other possible causes are. I plan to keep an eye on it. I'm hoping that I solved the problem.

That is acommon symptom for the 850s. The new filler cap gasket will seal a while but after a little while it'll start leaking again. To stop this, you would want to replace the PCV components, as old PCV system allows the crankcase pressure to build up. I would also replace the dipstick O-ring, since it is less than a dollar.

Yeah just what JPN said. The best place to get the pcv replacement parts is fcpgroton where the sell a kit designed especially for your car. Search through here and you will find several threads on changing the pcv system. Good luck.
if theres too much pressure in the crank case and you seal up the oil cap to well. wont it just start blowing out other seals(i.e. rear main or head gasket). had this prob with my buddies 83 240 DL years ago.
