Painting the faded trim/bumpers?
So like most 850's my bumpers are that grey faded color. My car is silver and I was thinking to use "showroom new black" to dye the bumpers/etc black. Do you guys think it's a good idea to go from grey to black, will it come out good? Or do I get the grey dye instead of black? http://showroomnewproducts.com/_mgxroot/page_10772.html
That's really a matter of preference. Personally I like my trim the dark grey color on the white car and black on the yellow, but some really prefer black on any color. On a silver car either would look fine in my opinion.
The original trim color is charcoal. Not black. Do what you prefer. I opted to replace my blackened bumper/bumper covers and trim pieces with ones in better condition and which were not "darkened", but are rather very close to the original dark grey color. Back to black is a good semi-permanent option to use instead of paint or *gasp* shoe polish.
Quite rude, in my opinion. It's not your place to tell people to do a search regarding any questions they might have. In fact, this guy was looking for opinions, not tech support. There are many variables that go into a forum being successful, one of them being constant flow of posts. It just makes for interesting topics and good convo. This isn't an informational website, it's a place to talk about our 850s. I think if you really care about helping other people with their cars, you would do the searches for them if they were new to the site or volvos in general. I think you'll gain a lot more respect that way. If you want a real life example, look at the mods. They know more about these cars than probably most reg mechs do, but I've never once seen one of them tell someone to search something out. If they know about it, they post it, plain and simple. TW
I just received my bottle of showroom new. I did the passenger side today and it looks great. From what I've read here on the forum it's a great product and lasts a while. You can buy it at ipdusa.com, just search showroom new. I will do the other side tomorrow and let you know how it holds up.

The problem with Msg Boards and e-mail for that matter is you can not tell the tone of what is being said. Some times if somebody is looking for something and I know the answer is here, but don't have time to search for it myself, I will tell them to search, but by no means do I mean to be rude, but you can not tell that by reading what is said. There is a very good chance that whoever told him to search was just saying the answer is here, but I don't know where, but you can find it.
In this case though the original poster was looking for an opinion which is why I responded the way I did immediatley after the other guy told him to search for it. Hard to search for an opinion.
I just used "Black Again", a creamy, colorless goop from Meguiar's. It turned the gray trim on my 96 850 from chalky-looking to new-looking. The bumpers in particular are 100% better, but so are the little trim things around the side mirrors, the roof rack bars, the door handles, etc. Just a wipe-on deal. My guess is this lasts six months. Fine. I can wipe again.
You'll be lucky to see 6 weeks or 3 washes....whichever comes first. You spent 6-7 bucks on a temp solution like Meguiar's.....4 bucks more for Showroom new which is a permanent dye.
Slack and lazy sucks. Don't do it, don't be it and certainly don't be a proponent of it.

I had my bumpers, handles and all molding on my 96 850 T5 dyed with FOREVER BLACK and it was solid black for 2 years with no fading. You may have to go over it several times but it is the best stuff on the market.Does not wash off and fading is very minimal if at all.

Take a heat gun very carefully to the bumper trim - just as if you were painting, but in slower motions - instantly restores the plastic with its own oils - doesn't work on the modlings though as its a different material.
after you're done you can still apply forever black or whatever additive you prefer, to enhance them further but the heat gun is an instant night/day difference.

I dont know why we are debating these two products, they are both great and probably work off the same principle. No need to say one is better than the other.
By the way, did I mention I use Showroom New?

Theres no debate.Showroom New is less common and doesnt include a self applicating sponge like Forever Black does.
BTW Lets see some results of this Showroom New.
