Passenger Side Wiper Arm Hitting Hood
Hello,
This is my first post on the forum... seems like there is a wealth of knowledge on here.
I have a 1996 Volvo 850 GLE Wagon with over 420,000 km (on the original engine!)
I have a few things that have popped up recently:
1. My windshield wiper arm on the passenger side hits the hood after going up. It rests at the normal location above the edge of the windshield, but once you turn the wipers on, you can hear a repeated 'wacking' sound when the arm hits the edge of the hood.
Would this be the fault of the wiper transmission part? I haven't tried to tighten the wiper arm nuts yet, so I will do that first. If it is the transmission part, how easy it is the install the new one??
2. Also, the dash (as mentioned everywhere I can see) squeaks, but upon looking on the outside where the wipers are (to verify the wiper arm 'hitting the hood' problem), the black plastic wiper cowl (that covers the wiper motor etc.) is not attached to the bottom of the windshield glass from the centre of the windshield all the way to the edge of the passenger side of the windshield.
Could this be the cause of the problem, or would tightening up the bolts that attach the dash to the firewall be the best bet? It seems that after we had the windshield replaced (a few years back) it seems to get worse when it was cold(????).
(Please, if you have any installation/procedures with pictures, I would be very thankful)
3. The car idles rough a little at start up: the RPMs go up and down a little for a few minutes, especially during cold weather start. It seems to last a short while until the car is warmed up.
Any ideas??
Thank you in advance for all of your expertise and thoughts!!

RE: Passenger Side Wiper Arm Hitting Hood
1. Check the nut first. Also make sure the right arms are on the right side the longer one should be on the passenger side and shorter one on the drivers side.
2. Check the bolts for the dash but most likely the dash mounting tabs are broke. I made a post about repairing them.
3. Last tune up including throttle cleaning.
