Drivers side Wiper Arm lifts off the last 1/4 stroke
I remove the arm and use a bench vise. I slide the arm in the vise with a rag and GENTLY push it in a little and bend it slightly towards the way it would sit closer to the windshield.
Thanks Tech...I will give it a go. Man I am in BMW forums that are good and they have a lot of good members - but as a moderator you make this forum one of the best! Thanks a million.

I had the same problem with my car. I was able to fix the arm without removing. See the link below.

I cut a 1mm (0.0394") thick washer in half and installed it beneath the arm pivot, so that the arm was installed at an angle and the problem solved. Just an alternative.

I did just what Tech said. It took very little bending. It's very easy to take off. I was not sure I even bent it at all, but figured if it was not enough it was easy enough to do a little more. It was find and I never had to take it off again.
I did it in a different way (actually technician who I took the car to), maybe to rough but, unfortunately i thought this was only me who had this problem - this guy from the Opel Center, he just bend the arm somewhere in the middle, it is not bothering me as a driver, but it definitely is not good looking.
what, if the old arm which lifts off will be changed with a new one, will it have the same problem?
thanks

Strange issue that mine had as well. I bent the arm while still attached as suggested by Deeter. Worked great. You guys are the best.

I'm definitely glad to hear I'm not the only one!!! I made it a little better a while ago but was afraid to push down on the arm more than I did, tomorrow I'll have to push on it a little more and see if I can finish the job Thank you all for this good information!

Before assuming the motor is bad try just tightening the nut that holds the wiper arm on. I have had this happed to me where the nut just gets lose. If the shaft to the wiper arm does not move with the wipers on, the motor is bad.
My daughter's 1995 Volvo 850 GLE also had the same problem with both wiper arms. First I put on heavy duty winter wiper blades that are thicker and higher blade size (bought them at Costco) which allowed more pressure on the wiper arm and blade. That worked the first year but then when it was time to replace the blades, I couldn't get the real heavy duty winter blades, I had a real problem with the wiping on the windshield. I tried tightening the nuts on both arms and that helped a little but still was a problem. So, I took both arms off, and not having a vise like others used, I just bent the wiper arms over the edge of a concreate step. They work like champs now even though they do stick up a little. I think the main problem where the wiper arm connects by the nut by the hood........the base isn't as solid anymore from the continual use and just wear and tear of the vehicle. Just thought I'd also share my little tricks to improve the wiping..........the heavy duty winter type wipers might solve the problem for some; bending the arms for others; and then maybe new wiper arms for others.
Mine had this problem, but it's a very easy fix. Just bend the small part of the wiper arm toward the windshield. Don't over do it, it only takes a little. This works fine and you don't see the bend, if you keep it small.
