Default Proper adjustment of wastegate actuator

In the middoe of swapping my turbo on the car and had a question about the wastegate arm: I'm installing a new one on the new turbo (didnt come with one) and was wondering if there should be any tension on it when it's sitting on the bench. I want to make sure I have this thing set right, because it's a lot easier to adjust with it out of the car. Thanks all.

On the factory set-up if you apply 4psi to the waste gate and then set the rod on to the flap with the door closed. This sets the waste gate to start open at 4 psi. I set my stock one to open at 5psi it spools up quicker. and won't open until at least 5psi of boost! Unsure for the turbo you have if your running higher than stock pressure you can probably set it around 7 or 8 depending in how high your boosting. Hope that helps alittle!

Clean850R is spot on. There is a really good video that iPd did called turbo 101. You can find it on YouTube. That will show you exactly how to do it. You need to be a little on the careful side as not to build boost too fast and develop too much Tq in the lower RPM range. There is a real possibility of bending rods even in stock form. I had my wastegate set at 5.5psi on my iPd stage I tune and it ran great and started to build boost about 2,800RPM.
It's really easy once it's in the car, set it at 4psi and adjust it from there to fine tune it to where you like it. just leave the heat shield off till you get it where you like it.

Be careful to use the right setting! LPT motors use 2.6 PSI, there's others that use 1.8 PSI... make sure you use the right setting.
