Default Radio Resets

1995 Volvo 850 Wagon
I need a radio reset 4 digit code for my car. I've seen so many people asking but no real constructive help.My local dealers have been less than helpful. Doesn't anyone know the codes?

As far as I know, only the dealers have them, call all of them, even ones not in your area, in my experience they just ask for the vin, though some need verification. Also, have you tried calling volvo? They might have it. Try Jim Fischer Volvo 503 295 5571 just ask for the radio code and have your vin on hand...

That is correct. Every radio has a different code. You can only get it from the dealer so if your current dealer is not helping, call another one.

Default Radio Codes

Thanks folks.
I'm not sure why the local dealers are being so reluctant to help. I will try the numbers suggested.
Cheers

Well I got the code. I cannot get the radio back to where I can actually enter the code. I took the fuse out. I disconnected the battery...neither worked. I'm stuck.

If you disconnect the battery and reconnect it, turn on the car and radio, the CODE message should be the first thing to pop up. When you do this, is nothing happening? or are you getting an EEEE message?

Hi

I disconnected the battery and after 2 hours re-connected it. When I turn the radio back on/ power on it says "OFF". I just can't seem to get back to the place for entering the code.

You need to leave the car in the on position with the battery connected for two hours. Once the radio is on for 2 hours straight, it will say code again.

Default 1995 Volvo 850 radio code

I replaced my radiator, t stat and hoses and had the battery disconnected...came up with a radio code and since I bought it used from a third party had NO IDEA where to find it. The radio said "OFF" on the display so today I disconnected the negative terminal on the battery for about ten minutes and when I hooked it back up, somehow it bi passed the radio code and now the radio code works....maybe this will be helpful for some.

I had heard that on some models if you hold in preset button 6 while turning on and off it may bi pass...any ideas??? Thanks

No, just have to wait the 2 hours with it on. I had one that went to CODE after I drove around for 2 hours (20 minutes here, 40 minutes here, etc.), didn't have time to let it sit. Anyway, you can try a bunch of tricks and let us know what works. So, disconnect your battery so it asks for the code, enter 3 random wrong codes so it says OFF, play with some tricks and let us know what it takes to get CODE back and let us know.

As for finding the radios code, you can also look in the owners manual. I know mine was already recorded in the back of it. Makes sense someone stealing the radio isn't going to take the time or even think of taking the owners manual too

I alway write mine on the passenger side vanity mirror flap (inside). That way if I reach down to turn on the radio and it says CODE and I can't remember it at the time, I can flip that down real quick and see it.

Default Radio Code

Yeah I thought that it was going to work, the radio played for about 10 mins then shut off and went back to "code." As for when the radio says "off," I disconnected the negative terminal for about ten mins and when I re connected it the radio went back to saying "code." I did a search online and went to a website named justanswer.com, where they have volvo techs that can get the radio code for you; you just have to provide radio type and vin. It cost me $18 but once I submitted the question, I received an answer in a couple hours with the radio code....I put the code in and everything works fine. I know it costs money but it was less of a hassle then trying to get it from the dealer. Hope this may help some....

Good source of information if you get an expert who is actually a Volvo tech... trust me.

Some dealer will give you the code if you just call them and give them the VIN. You can also get it using the serial number from the head unit, just in case somebody switch head units from another Volvo.

It's just sad that you had to pay to get it. Likely a dealer tech who took your info, went to work and punched it in and made some $$ on the side.

The other thing is if someone stole my radio I'd like to think it would be harder than paying some guy a few bucks to use my radio in their car.

Great point, have no idea what I was thinking of but it really wasn't a 90's Volvo radio that's a double DIN and wouldn't fit most cars anyway !!

I'm blaming it on the spiked eggnog !!

Leave the radio on with you key turned to position 1 for 2-3 hours. turn off your lights to conserve battery..ect..
