Rear wheel lock up

Rear wheel lock up
Hi,
My wife got into the 850 wagon this morning after a snow storm, and as she was driving off the rear driver's side wheel thumped and locked up. It was just the one side and it released in reverse. But when she put it into drive it did it again. We also noticed that that wheel seemed to be riding particularly low in the wheel well. A google search impled that this problem (in general, not correlating with volvo's) indicated that this is a brake (Fluid? ABS?) problem, possibly corrilated to wet weather.
Has any one else had this problem? Any possible solutions?
Thanks.

RE: Rear wheel lock up
Is the car riding so low that it is hitting the wheel? The riding low could be a broken spring. The wheel locking up could be a stuck caliper or the emergency brake is getting stuck. Them emergency brake is a set of small brake shoes inside the rear rotor. To me it sounds like two unrelated problems, but not really too sure.

+1 to all.
I would have the e-brake fixed so you can use it. You probably know, that even on rear disc brakes, the e-brake uses drum-type shoes and if there was enough water present, it could have frozen but since it released in reverse, it may have been trailing shoe or the leading shoe. If you can work on a car, see attachment. If not, have a shop do it for you, preferably a shop that specialises in Swedish/European makes and insist on using OEM parts only.
The manual continues on as "...second and eighth notch. Install cover plate"
