Default reclined seat

I am wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions for my drivers seat. While giving the car a thorough cleaning today I reclined the drivers seat all the way back but now it won't return to its proper position. Has anyone else experienced this before and if so how did you resolve it?

Thanks
Jamie

Chances are you broke the seat back cable. Details on the repair processcan be found here.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the ease of performing this repair? I need to have the bottom cushion on this seat re-stitched anyway so maybe I should ask for an estimate on the repair at an upholstery business.

It isn't difficult but it is intimidating. You spend the time taking it apart wondering in the back of your mind if you can get it back together and have it look right. You can get it back together and it will look fine.

If you need other upholstery work done then repairing the cable won't add that much to the labor charges. The cable itself runs $58.00 plus freight from FCP Groton. eEuroparts has it for $57.03 with free freight.

I would say around a 5 on the scale.

Hey, thanks for the info. I contacted an upholsterer in my area (southern Maine) today and he said he would re-stitch the seat and repair the cable for $125. Saves me the worry of trying to get it back together again (all I can picture is Humpty Dumpty falling to the ground and me with a bottle of glue).

Thanks again

Jamie

Hi Tech,
Just an update on my seat reclining problem. I took it to an upholstery business in Saco, ME, he restitched the bottom portion of the seat and re-attached the dislocated cable for $95 taxes included.

If you hear of anyone in Southern Maine that needs some upholstery work done I would recommend D and L Upholstery in Saco. He works very quickly and is extremely reasonable.

Thanks

Jamie
