Tomorrow I will take possession of a '96 850 GLT - with all the different fuel mixtures on the market today -what is the experience of the group as to the best fuel to put in this car?

Run what the car calls for. I think the GLT calls for premium - use that.

For the '96 GLT? Regular would fine, I would think. The GLTs didn't get turbos until '97. If it was a '97 it would be advisable to use a higher octane, but without the turbo you're just paying more for nothing. As far as I know it's the NA engine isn't exactly high compression. My '96 GLT has been fed a steady diet of 87 for the past sevens and a half years. I filled up with 93 once and got no difference in performance or mileage at all.

actually the 2.4 N/A engine is 10.5:1 i would consider that HIGH compression. it says premium recommended for the GLT, thats what my parents put in theirs, i would never put anything below 89 in my volvos. for my turbo i stick to 92+
