Replace OEM Radio with Double-Din (no "dash pockets")
Hi, I am new to the forum. (Not really, have been gleaning valuable knowledge here for a while.)
I want to replace the OEM radio, but like everyone else has said, Crutchfield, Best Buy, etc all tell you to use a single DIN (normal size) radio and fill the space with a "dash pocket". Clearly, there is room to fit a double-din radio in that space, which gives more options for nicer radios (bluetooth, touchscreen, etc). I also hate the look of single-DIN radio as they try to squeeze all the controls into a tiny space, or worse, make you use menus to change settings.
My question is: Has anybody successfully installed a double-din sized radio, like a Pioneer AVIC-3, into a Volvo 850? If yes, do you have pictures or a description of what you did to make it stay in place?
I know about wiring harnesses and such. Mounting the radio is what baffles me. Again, I really want to use a Double-DIN radio if at all possible.
Thanks,
William
