replaced pnp swicth wont run
I got a pnp switch from the junkyard and took it apart cleaned it,installed it.car was a little hard to start but ran for a short test drive when parking car stalled and wont start.got spark and gas could something hav e not been done right when I cleaned it?should I reinstall the origanal one?
Why did you change it if the one on the car was fine?
If you haven't isolated a car problem to a single part, make sure the part you take off is broken before you replace it. I write from experience...

What switch did you get and why did you think that was the problem? I get stuff from P n P but I expect some of it might not be any good, other cars could have the same problem I'm trying to fix on mine.
because the one on the car was NOT fine flashing arrow and taking off in third.
The PNP switch aka the neutral safety switch.Flashing arrow taking off in third.
You could try the original but the PNP should only cause it to not turn over if it's out of adjustment and moving the shifter would allow it to crank so you'd know it's only an adjustment.
Since you say you have spark I'm going to assume it's cranking, just not starting. The PNP could also cause some shifting issues if incorrectly adjusted but I don't think it can cause a no start. Maybe you bumped a vacuum line loose or an electrical connector in that area ?? If you pulled the air filter assembly there are a lot of different things that could have been affected.
What year, turbo or NA

1997 glt turbo yes it cranks even ran but stalled out and wont start.was hard to start with new switch at first could I have messed something up inside the switch?

Well spark is easy to tell if you have it or not. How did you determine you have fuel ??
You might be to the point of checking compression. If you have spark and fuel that would bring up the chance the timing jumped.

sorry I did not mean to offened anyone I should have worded it better.I knew the car ran with the origanal switch.
I just noticed the cam position senor conector is in pieces with the wires part way out,I have spare so I'm going to change it out.the exposed connections may have been shoting to each other.

I'm not sure how many teeth and you start hitting valves but I do know it's more than one.
I'd do the compression test anyway just so you know where you are at.
How does the timing belt look ?? Do you know when the last time was, any cracking?? The water pump ??
It would be nice if you went into "UserCP", "Signature" and added some basic info on your car. That way we (I) wouldn't have to go back to the info buried down 5-6 posts in the thread. It's just so much easier and you can see a lot of us do it. Just a thought.

It goes both ways. Sometimes it's the OP, sometimes it's the responder. People get frustrated and sometimes take it out on the wrong person or you're so busy thinking of what you're trying to say you may not say it the way you want to. Gracious of you to apologize and I've been told I'm a bit prickly at times so I know how that goes.

the belt looks good no cracking but I am not sure when it was changed last I do have the FCP parts kit for it.after I changed out the cam sensor it would start(hard to get it to)and run for two minutes then stall.Have to wait 30-60 minute before I can get it to start and run again, fuel pump comes on (I could hear it).smoke from the dip stick tube when cranking but not after starting.I'll try to get a compression tester from autozone tomarrow.I have owned the car for one year.
