Replacing balast resistor
 

Okay, I'm pulling a 418 code and on suggestion I purchased a new ecc ballast resistor. After doing some searching, I noticed a lot of threads about the actual blower being a culprit causing a brand new resistor to go bad after installation. Here's my symptoms:

> Rec & A/C lights flashing
> Pulling 418 code (well, along with 417, but that's a different issue)
> The blower not strong at all, but after a non-specific period of time, will work


Question is, do I need to replace the blower too? If I do need one, then so be it, but I'm really very strapped cash wise (stupid electric & gas company) and really can't afford a new blower if I don't need one.

just a shot in the dark if it spins the windings are probably good, if you take the blower motor apart check the bearings to see if it spins freely(oil it maybe) and inspect the brushes to see if they're OK

Those are classic signs of a bad Blower motor.

Damn. I was hoping I didn't need to replace the blower itself.

Usually when the blower motor goes bad it pulls way to many Amps and then the A/C computer turns the motor off.

The A/C system? It does it if the A/C is on or off - last time was when the heater was on. Does that make a difference?

It will do it anytime you try to use the Blower motor.
