Default smoke on startup at times????

Hi guys, it happened to me twice today, i noticed it tonight when i went to start up the car. there was a bit of blue smoke that came out of the exhaust, it lasted for a second and then cleared out, that it the only time it happened(at start up) and it happened twice, i think it happens when the engine has cooled off and restart it. I had the compression checked when i got the car and it was high...i noticed that the oil level was just below halfway mark on the dipstick but the last time the oil change was done was in may last year! in 2007...do you think i should get it changed and maybe help it out? thanks

Your problems sound symptomatic of worn/leaky valve seals. It is quite a job to change them and I would be inclined to monitor oil consumption and just live with it until it gets worse. You might want to try some MaxLife Syn Blend oil. They claim to have "seal conditioners". I have a very slight leak in the steering rack on the Platinum and I just changed out power steering fluid with their transmission stop leak fluid on Sunday. It is to soon to tell if it is doing anything but there is something in the formula that is supposed to swell the seals a bit. I havenever had any luck with the "fix in a bottle" stuff but I figure itcan't hurt anything to try.

Hey Lee.thanks for the reply... i am surprised that it can be doing this already..the car only has 176 000km on the clock (about 110 000 miles)...i am still thiinking that it may be due to the old oil in it. supposidly the car was sitting outside for a few months, maybe that can be it?
If i wanna do an oil change, what oil should i use? i don't know what grade of type of oil i have in it right now...thanks\

An yes you NEED and oil change if it's been over 13 months since it was done.

Hi guys, ya i did do an oil change, the mecanic put in a heavier oil (10w30). i'm also stuck with a problem, there is some smoke coming out of, i think, the exhaust manifold. I was lookingunder the hood today and at idle i didn't notice it really, when if i gave the engine a quicck shot of the throttle, there was a puff of smoke that come out...i will have it looked after. i was wondering though, can the oil consumption also be occuring because of the exhaust manifold leak? i hope this is what it is....the smoke coming out was white in color....i hope it's not the head gasket..if it was the head casket would white smoke come out, and if so, where exactly? thanks

White smoke out the exhaust CAN but not always mean you are burning coolant, which would indicate a failed head gasket. Check your coolant overflow tank (when the engine is cool) and see if you have oil droplets in the coolant. Another way to check is to take the coolant overflow cap off and start the engine. If you see bubbles coming up from the tank, you likely have a bad head gasket

Clogged vent system?
I have yet to change valve seals and guides due to being worn/smoking.
It is usually something else causing the smoke.
