Stage 3 ECU chip, plausible or snake oil?
I know I wouldn't get 300hp, but do you think this would work even a little?

ECU chip for the turbocharged engine fitted to the Volvo 850/855 T5/T5R, automatic transmission.
This ECU EPROM Chip is designed to work with the standard injectors and original air flow meter (MAF / AFM) and will produce up to 300hp and 430Nm with a free-flowing air filter and a free-flowing exhaust, depending on spec, condition of the engine etc.
Even without the optimized filter, exhaust and regulator your car will gain a massive power and torque increase.
IMHO - - SNAKE OIL
They might as well say up to 500HP because it would be as believable as the 300HP. 300HP with exhaust and air filter . . . That's some good drugs.
Take a look at the stuff people have done trying to get to 300HP or 350HP and it's all based on a boat load of components working together.
The best way to put it is if it really did work, their company name would be on fire here on the Volvo boards and everyone would want one. I've never seen them before.
ARD is Lucky. Lucky is a Volvo guy and has an excellent tune product and reputation. For that part I don't think there is anything he carries that isn't top notch.
We did a group buy recently of the light weight harmonic pulleys. Good product, good support and fast delivery.
Every one who's dealt with him on getting a tune has been happy that I know of.

It's just my opinion and I"m hoping no one out there bought one of these but the only thing sillier than that chip manufacturers claims are the guys selling the heater/AC blower motors in a case and calling it a supercharger !!!
Now that's SNAKE OIL !!!
But I have to admit, guys who buy stuff like this are fun to race.

I'm done making fun of it, sorry.
Yes, you likely would get a little bit more power but I honestly believe a K&N stock replacement air filter for about the same money would get you the same.
You are also talking about De-soldering the stock chip and soldering in that chip. I'm pretty sure it doesn't just pop in like the GM's if I remember the threads about chips over on VolvoSpeed right. I could be wrong.
If it is a chip that needs soldering, the K&N is looking better and better
Went back to the ad, you have to solder it in ... that's a whole new ball game for most guys.

I buy this chip, I put it in my volvo 850 turbo 1994, 96.000km, with stage 0. I put a socket in my ECU, them I can change de chip very easy. I'm from Brazil. The power increase was great with the stock components. The fuel comsumption seens to be the same, or perhaps, low (here I use shell v-power fuel with 87 octane grade). I don't know what will be the engine durability from now. This ebay chip could be a clone from a know brand, because my friend that soldered the chip to me, an expert in eletronics, said that is very easy to clone this type of eprom chip. If i have some problem with this chip, I'll post my thoughts here. Sorry for my bad english.

I look for the reputation/feedback from the buyers of this ebay chip (dptuning), and the feedback is 100% positive. My experience for while is positive too.

I know some chips are good and others .....
If it's working for you and you're feeling a much peppier engine I sure defer to your real world experience with that brand of chip. Usually the big advantage to doing the chip is strictly bang for the buck as a simple chip usually isn't too expensive compared to other modifications and if done correctly can give some noticeable oomph.
