Default Still Smoky

I'm still having smoke coming out of my dipstick after I did the PCV/PTC system. I was told that a bad piston ring(s) could be causing the continuing smoky dip stick tube. I want to know if that kind of job is worth doing on a car that has 214K miles on it and if so, what kind of job is that, I'm assuming a big one, but never have had any experience with this kind of car work.

Just got a can of restore and see if it can help. I won't bother further as it has 214K.

Oh. Haha. I guess I will try that, see how that works. Does that just bring life back to seals and rings or something?

http://www.restoreusa.com/

Thats pretty much what it does. I have never used it, so I can't say if it works or not. Its not like it costs tons of money, so I doubt it will hurt trying it.

The car will be fine. I have a worn piston ring, and I think the valve guides are leaky. (after 260,000miles what did I expect )

Just hold out till you have a good chunk of money saved, then open the motor and build it properly.

Forged components....etc.

What does that all entail? And how much? I really want to start saving up to get an R eventually. But I love this car so much I wouldn't mind just rebuilding the engine some day and redoing suspension and driving this one forever.

Well. depends on the company and how much you want to do. I said good chunk of money saved....
Check out RSI. Now it will be in the thousands. it is $500 for the rods, and $750 for pistons. to do it right, well, then you looking anywhere from $2000 to $5000. if you build it your self, that will save money, but some stuff, leave to pros. you will also need to seals, and ARP bolts...etc. then you would need to look into the driveterrain to handle the new build, and some suspension work. I think you could build the whole car ~$10,000 do it yourself. only a guess on the low side.

Also, you might want to consider getting a Catch can. That will help with your blow by. I still need to get a few for the cars.

It catches blow by oil. it is extra system, does basicly the same as the PCV system, but usually better.

Where do you pick up one of those and what is the cost of one? I've never heard of that before.

For $10k you can easily get an R with low mileage, a boost controller, ecu tune, springs, new wheels, and just about everything else you would need or want.

It's like a projector I made DIY. I laid an lcd screen on an old-school overhead projector. After all was said and done I paid $500 for the parts not to mention it is bulky, fragile, and heats up an entire room. For $500 I could have just bought a compact one with the same quality. I really didn't think ahead before pursuing my project.

Unless that car has really strong sentimental value to you, I would never think of rebuilding the engine. You have to consider the frame, interior, and all othe components still have seen 214K miles of wear and tear.

I don't think you can alter the terrain you drive on. You have to make the car for the terrain, not expect the terrain to behave the way you wish.
LOL just having fun with a typo.

HAHAHA. That's funny. Yeah, I wouldn't do a rebuild on that car. I think the only thing I would do is a headgasket kit. That way I would be able to replace a lot of the seals and gaskets and what not. And yeah, for ten grand I could get an R and then pretty much do all the mods that I want to it. I'm going to get a bottle of that restore stuff today and add that to it, I think it should help.

TIPSP has such extreme ideas, I think he is trying to create an Aryan race of Volvos all in his image. LOL

I see straight through you TIPSP. My Volvo will never fall victim to your ways of overmodding and suffering wallets.

LOL jk of course brother just having some fun.
