Default Strage oil leaks

So, I am new to this forum and its great by the way. I have had my 850 for about two years now and it has 200,000 miles on it. When I bought it the head gasket was replaced and recently I replaced the pcv system because the dipstick was smoking. The problem I am having now is with oil leaks. I have always had a smaller leak on the passenger side that gets all over the oil filter and pan which hasn't really been a big deal but now I am getting a steadier leak from behind the drivers side of the engine. It seems to be coming from right behind the motor mount right below the farthest right header. Could it be the head gasket? I kind of find that hard to believe since it was replaced but I guess it could have blown out from the pcv system being clogged? I don't think it is the RMS because it is coming from where i described and not around the RMS. Any help would be great. It is leaking about one drip every 5 sec for about 15mins after it is parked from a drive.

your cam shaft seals needs replacing. might have gotten bad from a clogged pcv for a long period of time. you can use this tutorial as a guide to replace the seals.

if your head gasket was shot, your volvo will be loosing coolant, likely causing an overheat, and you might find coolant in your oil. if you dont see these symptoms and it is just an oil leak, from your description its your seals causing that leak.remove your crankshaft position sensor and see if its filled with oil. if it is thats where your oil is leaking. remove your timing belt cover and check oil leaks there.

I get a small amount of white on the dipstick but have assumed tha is from the dipstick not being sealed very well. don't have any cooling issues and no loosing coolant. I was talking about the upper mount the black bracket that is on the drivers side of the engine. And where is the sensor? sorry if that is a newbee question lol.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Is the car turbo? If so, it can be from the turbo area. However, if you are sure it's coming from the back of the motor near the upper torque mount it's likely the rear exhaust cam seal. Here are the better instructions for that job:

Cam Seal Replacement, rear, 1998 Volvo S70 GLT - Volvo 850 Cam Seal Replacement

The car is a 96 GLT non turbo. And what confussed me was do you mean the camshaft position sensor of the crankshaft position sensor? In that picture is the camshaft position sensor correct?

If you have an oil leak near the front of the motor, make sure it's not leaking in the timing belt cover area. A oily timing belt is not a good thing.

Also, when you replace cam seals, it's a good idea to use OEM (Volvo seals). They usually last longer under normal use.

Also, curious as if it is the cam seals which I now think it is, why is the oil in the back of the engine and not the side?

You could have several leaks. Start with one and move to another. I also had a leak on the back of the motor on our S70. Look at this link:

If all else fails take it to a car wash and spray down the engine to clean it up some and then start inspecting it each time you get back home after driving. You could also add an engine oil dye that will glow under black light to show you new leakage coming out of the engine.

As fast as you say yours is leaking it shouldn't be that had to follow that trail up to the point of origin.

Yes. You just pour it in. You need to make sure it's the right stuff. The directions will tell you what fluids it mixes with. I know some are dedicated like AC dye, some for diesel engine oil, cooling systems but I've see some that you can use in most oils like engine oil and power steering and transmission fluid.

Then you can head off to a hardware store and get a black light and you're good. That or you can buy the little 15 dollar kit at a auto parts store with a black light flashlight and the yellow glasses that enhance the glow.

I've had a few of them but the one time the little panel on the back of motor was leaking and blowing everywhere. I had to get under the car with it running to find it. I put it on ramps.
