Throttle Body Question
Please forgive me if this is a topic that has already been covered - new to Volvos and this forum . . .
I bought a '94 850 cheep that didn't run from a co-worker a few months ago, replaced the alternator and I have been off and running. The other day I decided to really clean and inspect the intake and PCV system and noticed something strange in the throttle body. On the butterfly valve there is a hunk of plastic molded onto the plate which seems to block off one half of the opening at low throttle and could impead the flow at full throttle (see picture).http://mhutchens.com/images/car/throttle.jpg Has anyone out there modified their throttle body with a different plate which doesn't have the plastic piece? Any improved performace? From where did you get the donar throttle plate? Thanks |
Yup been covered.
The plastic bit helps smooth out the low throttle opening response. Some models (mines a 96 850) dont have this piece. It makes the throttle very touchy at low engine speeds without it. As far as i am aware, it offers no performance benifit either way. |
Kind of what I thought (both having been coverend and no real perforamce gain).
Thanks! |
+1, just leave it alone. It will not help in performance in anyway and would just make the car more of a pain to drive in traffic.
