Please forgive me if this is a topic that has already been covered - new to Volvos and this forum . . .

I bought a '94 850 cheep that didn't run from a co-worker a few months ago, replaced the alternator and I have been off and running.

The other day I decided to really clean and inspect the intake and PCV system and noticed something strange in the throttle body. On the butterfly valve there is a hunk of plastic molded onto the plate which seems to block off one half of the opening at low throttle and could impead the flow at full throttle (see picture).

Has anyone out there modified their throttle body with a different plate which doesn't have the plastic piece? Any improved performace? From where did you get the donar throttle plate?

Yup been covered.
The plastic bit helps smooth out the low throttle opening response.
Some models (mines a 96 850) dont have this piece.
It makes the throttle very touchy at low engine speeds without it.
As far as i am aware, it offers no performance benifit either way.

 

Kind of what I thought (both having been coverend and no real perforamce gain).

+1, just leave it alone. It will not help in performance in anyway and would just make the car more of a pain to drive in traffic.
