I figured that I would soldier through the problems caused by the failing ABS unit until I almost rear-ended someone on the way to class because the ABS kicked in during a slow brake. Scared the crap out of me.

I got my rebuilt unit back this morning from Gavin at Module Master. Quick turnaround. Haven't had a chance to install it.

I just ordered the socket from the guy on that website for $5.00 plus $2.50 for S&H. Mac Tools wanted $21.00 for one that they said would work. Wife said the oddometer quit working today, so I guess that car sits until I get the tool, then send the unit out and wait for it to return. Said it might take 5-8 days just to get the damn socket.

$117 total Not bad if you ask me. I'll be putting the repaired unit back in my car tomorrow. I'm excited to be able to use the speedometer again...

I got the E5 from MATCO for $3.86. He dropped it off at my marine dealer this morning and I picked it up at lunch. Guess I'll finish uninstalling the unit tomorrow and then get it sent off for repair.

Did you look at Discount or an AutoZone?

Autozone and Advance Auto have Torx socket sets but they start at the E6 size, of course[:@]. Those are the two closest to my house so I didn't check any others. Just decided to go to the marine dealer and that was all she wrote.

NAPA's smallest was E6. I just got damn tired of looking and ordered it. It was shipped yesterday. We are just driving the other two cars until I get the white one fixed. That's why I have three older cars, so one can be non-drivable, but we still each have a car.

Took the unit off last night and sent it to Victor today. Going to take 2-3 days to get there, so should have it back on the road by next weekend if all goes well. I took tech's advise and took the air filter box out. Definitely made it easier to get to.

Ok, Victor sent me an e-mail and said my unit has been opened and fixed previously and he is not able to fix it. Now I'm not sure what to do. The local Dealer wants $513 for a new unit, and I found one on e-bay from a junk yard for $150. I sent Victor a couple e-mails asking him what my options are, like replacing the Circuit Board or whatever he suggests. Any ideas here?

I would try to get one off this forum or from ebay. You'll probably get it cheap enough that if you have to have it fixed later that you'll still be way ahead of what the dealer is asking.

Have you or has anyone tried ABSModules.ca?

It looks like they primarily sell to dealers/parts places, but ours has been out for almost a year, and I've been going to call them for some time to see if private consumers can buy from them.

Erie Volvo sells a remanufactured one for $250 with a lifetime replacement warranty. I'm still waiting to hear back from Victor to see if he offers any options. If he doesn't, I will go with Erie Volvo.

No. He said whoever worked on it before messed it up to where he could not fix it. I just got a reply from him. He wants $225 for another unit plus an extra $5.00 to return my old unit. Total would be $245 with a five year guarantee. I just asked him how much he was going to charge to tell me it's not repairable. I think it's $25.00, but don't remember where I got that number.

Hmmm a hacker.
See what you can dig up If you can't find anything good I may be able to find one that needs to be rebuilt for you.

I sent him the money for one. Total of $245 for shipping and everything isn't bad. Next time I will go more local though. Taking way too long to get this done, and we are not driving the car at all.

We finally have another car. We just got a 97 Subaru Legacy GT from my parents, so now I can pull the ABS module out of our 850. With the police in our town, you don't want to be driving around without a speedo. I'm looking forward to having ABS and Tracs again. Thanks again for this thread. Now that I'm ready to do it, I know just what to do.
