My 96 850 trans started slipping about one month ago,went driving in the NC mtns, did great. A few days later would not go.Sleniods in trans shot? Or do I need to start looking for another trans?

 

Did it slip in all gears? Mine used to slip in 1st after I pulled up to a stop. I did 3 drain/refills and a bottle of Lucas Stop Slip and it hasn't done it since, although it's developed a hard shift into 3rd.

Is the fluid burnt?

 

Check the fluid level and as mentioned, see if it is brown/black/burnt. If so, change it out andd seee what happens
