Default Transmission Problem? 93'

I have a 93 volvo, and man ever since I bought the car from my cousin it has been nothing but problems, but I love this car either way. The only problem I have is that when the car makes a complete stop it drives of very slowly, like it is not going into gear or some sort

When I am on the rode it drives beautifully, the only way i can get it into gear is when I am driving, I have to wait about when it gets to the @ on the RPm and I let go of the gas and press on it again. And it will go as normal until I make a complete stop again.

I took it to a local mechanic and he says its a loose vacuum or something, I don't know, but I am for sure for the cause of that i is wasting gas. I will fill it up with $30, with gas over here is about 3.05 it will last me about 5 days, not it won't even last me 3 or 2 days. it will be at 12 gallons of gas, next thing I look it is under 6. -_-

Any help will be most appreciative Thank you

The transmission does not use any vacuum inputs so it's not vacuum.

I don't understand what you are trying to say with the tachometer reading "@"

The rest of the description isn't really clear but maybe someone else understands what you are trying to say.

From what I get his trans is slipping or losing gear I think???

As far as the gas mileage when was the last time you did a stage "0"?

I sincerely apologize, I was on my phone when I wrote that.

1) I believe my transmission is slipping, because when the car is fully stopped, it drives off very slowly, and usually when you go into drive the car will start driving off by itself. My volvo does not do that. But once I am on the road, I have to let go off the gas and press it again to get the car into gear.

2) My mileage is very low, and I suspect it has something to do with my car no starting off correctly, because I have to press the gas a good two seconds to get the car to go. usually $30 will last me longer, and now it is now..

And please elaborate on stage "0"

Thank You

Good read for getting vehicle up to stage "0".

For the transmission you should call a shop or two in your area and see who does a free diagnostic test drive and get their opinion. Someone who can actually feel what it's doing and can hear the engine and see the gauges has a better feel for the problem.

Sorry, forgot about the MPG. Any chance it's due to it being colder outside? There have been a number of people who suddenly notice they are burning more gas for the same drive only to realize it's 40 to 85 degrees cooler outside and you're going to be running richer with the lower temps.
Where are you located ??
You can always be happy you didn't buy my 70 TransAm. You could literally watch the gauge drop on it. It was right around 4 MPG on a good day.

The first thing you should do is check the tranny fluid level. Check it as outlined in the owners manual. If you don't have an owners manual, use the online one. If the fluid is low add a little. If the fluid is not red, you need to change the fluid. Basic info here.

You can also try your winter transmission switch and when you come to a stop, select the winter mode and see if that helps you get moving a little quicker.

Do you have a CEL or arrow lit in the dash? Do those lights even work in your dash?

BTW, welcome to the forum. You may want to read the NEW 850 OWNER thread.

Ok so every time I make a stop I press the winter mode switch?

And yes there is an arrow flashing..

I will check the transmission fluid and to see if its red or not.
