You will not hit 20 PSI with the stock ECU. You will only hit 15.5 then the ECU shuts fuel down. It will surprise you if you hit it. It is like hitting a brick wall for a second then the boost is back.

You might also have an intercooler hose leaking that's why you only hit 13 PSI.

I thought it will boost 20 PSI even without a tuned ecu???
I mean all the exhaust is hitting the turbine so how would the ecu keep it at 15.5 PSI without a functioning wastegate?

The way you put it seems like it is impossible to run lean.

You can run lean but the computer knows if you boost to much. It will shut the fuel down at 15.5 PSI ask me how I know!!!! LOL

Tech's right again. no 20psi for you right now. that means your turbo is fine.

I am going to bed, long day can't remember anything.

Well after disconnecting the lines running to the TCV and reconnecting them, the car runs as it did before...alomst.

I still am missing like 0.5-1 psi but I got the faster spooling back that I've been missing for a while.

This weekend, I am going to check for any other leaks. I figure why not after I know how much one little leak can actually affect you.

That sucks. Why can't they just let you keep it. Is it costing your parents much to keep?

Well it had a history of costly repairs but nothing has gone wrong for almost a year now.

My brother is selling it in "fear" of more problems to come. My mom and I know he just expects to keep most of the money (if not all) after the car is sold because he is the original purchaser.

So if it sells it is a win-win situation for him. He is getting rid of a car that he doesn't drive anyway in exchange for a little over $3000 cash.

Yeah, that's kind of ridiculous. Not really fair either.

I know most of you don't care but I think Gilber does ...

My plans were to drive my parents Taurus to college. It is a 200 mile round trip and I make it at least once a month because of a GF. so over the 9 month school period, that is 1800 miles that are un-necessary.

I am going to use my parents car and keep the Volvo garaged up as a "weekend" drive. You know, something fun for summer breaks and stuff. It would greatly reduce the wear and tear on the car and would make it last more years than it would now.

So you're not selling it now? Or were those your plans before the car went on the market? Yeah, there's no point in putting unnecessary miles on the car.

Oh. There would have been nothing wrong with that. Because at least that way it wouldn't have been driven a whole lot to create problems.

Before testing for leaks, I plan to disconnect the vac lines running to the TCV and see if I can overboost.

If I can overboost (say over at least 10 psi) then the wastegate must be fine but if I get stuck at 5 psi again, the problem will be found.
Hi guys,
My name is Gabriel,
I have a black 1995 T5-R and I have same kind of problem...
With my T5-R ECU, I can't hold boost over 5-6 PSI... (peak to 8-9 PSI).
But with a remapp ECU, I can Boost too 14-15 PSI, but it the max of the injectors and boost drop to 5-6 and go back to 14-15 and drop to 5-6 again, etc etc...
My vacuum is good at idle 18-20 and 22-23 when I release the gas.
When I run the wastegate disconnected, I can go to 13-14 PSI with the T5-R ECU.
So, Can I have a wastegate problem, or a leak or something ??
Any help would be appreciate !!
Thanks
Gabriel

What is the ECU tuned for?
Does the tuned ECU have a fuel cutoff?
Is it misfiring under boost?

No the tuned ECU is not supposed to fuelcut (it's not like a fuelvut, but more like like it hit the max of the injectors)....

The T5-R ECU is supposed to hold about 10-11 PSI, but can only hold 5-6 (spike to 8-9). And with a MBC, the fuelcut was at 11-12 PSI...

I don't have any check engine light too....
