Default volvo 850 blown head gasket help!

hello everyone so last night I blew my head gasket and i have a few questions on what I should do. my car is a volvo 850 turbo 96
first of all /i would like to say that i blew my head out a year ago and im not sure why or how this happened again.
my first question is would it be cheaper to buy a engine vs rebuilding mine? what would be easier
also if i were to buy a new engine could i use a GLT? How hard is it to convert to a turbo? what are the differences all i would really need if the block and head?
and my final question is i found a VOLVO 850 parts car with a manual GLT could i put this engine and tranny in my car? I have seen posts on auto to 5 speed converstions and i think if i have all the parts it shouldnt be hard

Thanks for the help!

you blew your head gasket by over heating your car? how did this happen? it is alot of work replacing an engine than replace a head gasket. if might be cheaper replacing it with another engine. but if l was you l would just get another head from the junk yard a new gasket and replace it than replace the whole engine again. but it you have the time to replace a whole engine, then you can but l would just replace the head and gasket if l was you. is your car a 2.3l or 2.4l engine? l dont know if you replaced your engine with a GLT it will work or not because they are both different in liters.

as far as over heating the temperature gauge works and read normal temperature the heater core was leaking bad and dumping steam into the drivers compartment. I pour semi cold water into the engine. but as far as time i have plenty i have a back up car and mine is a 2.3 liter

you do not need to drop the sub fram but you will need the lifts. it was a big mistake for you to drive with a heatercore leak. same thing happened to my friend. talked to him soo many times but he didnt listen to me, he ended up with a shot head gasket. what year GLT engine are looking to replace with? here is a link to my friends s70 head problem.

You can NOT use a N/A motor... You will blow it the first time you go passed 3psi.

Anything except a N/A from a 96 to 98 should be fine.

Remember in 97 GLT's became turbos, so glt or T5 will work

NO...
It has been done with bad results... The N/A internals can not handle the added boost

There have only been 2 successful N/A =T's made and they can go passed 3 or 4 psi or they will cause damage

Besides the 2.3 turbo motors are a dime a dozen in the junkyard..
Or rebuild yours, its not like you melted a piston or anything, get the head checked.. new bolts, new gaskets, slap that thing back together..

if you want to get crazy.. get a '01 RN motor and drop it in

it depends what you are going to use...
valves= no
pistons and rings = no
block= no
crank and rods = no
oil pump= no
unless its a 97+ glt motor
