Volvo 850 A/C Issue.. Please Help
Hey guys,
I have had a beautiful 93 red 850 for about 10 months . Recently the A/C has been getting warmer and warmer. I have also noticed that when I am idling, a fan, or engine part clicks on and off directly in front of me in the engine. In the morning that A/C runs nice and cold but soon afterwards it gets warm. It is like that the rest of the day, with it sometimes getting cold here and there. I checked the pressure today and it reads anywhere from 50- 60 when the air is running at full blast. Are there any suggestions of what I can do to diagnose the problem? i live in Florida and it is getting hot. Any info would help greatly. Thanks in advance.

Go see tech. He lives in Fla too. Sounds like you are low on refrigerant. Have you tried recharging? There are plenty of threads in this forum telling you how to recharge. The clicking is the compressor coming on and off because you are low on freon.
You can't really go just by pressure. It might not all be Freon. But will still read the same pressure.
But if you hear the clicking most likely it is the compressor cycling because it is low.

Hey Tech,
Someone had mentioned you in Florida? I live in Tampa. So I should still add freon. How do I know how much to add.. Thanks for your guys' patience with my dumb questions.

One other sympton I have with the A/C is that recently since my air has been getting warmer and warmer, I have had foggy air come out of the vents most of the time when my a/c is running. Just though that might help. Thanks
Okay so I tried another can of freon and it seemed like the car was rejecting it. I think the pressure was too high in the line for the can to release the refridgerant. Does that make sense. One thing i did notice that before the car's a/c started to go warm the other day, i would sometimes get a howling noise directly in front of the driver side of the engine. It would get pretty loud if I put the air on max. When i would look in the hood to see where the noise was coming from, I had notice that one of the A/C was dripping condensation prety bad, and it felt like it was frozen. Any pointers on this one? Thanks
I assume i should put the refridgerant in the port in the picture.. Also, the line that connects to that port will get cold, almost to the point of freezing, and when the the air starts to get warm, that same line gets warm. Does this make any sense? Thanks
Does it usually Blow cold for a while them go to warm?
If so when it goes to Warm open the hood and check the Power wire at the compressor. If it has power the clutch is bad.

It does go warm after 10-15 minutes. Where exactly is this power wire? I am ssuming the compressor is the part all the way at the bottom connected to the serpentine belt.( i know i sound dumb) thanks
Yes that is the compressor. You should see a wire going into by the pulley from the back of the compressor.
Probe that wire with a test light when it starts to blow warm.

Turn on the engine and run the A/C.
Take the harness off the line that is in the pic.
Jumper the terminals on the harness; you'll hear compressor come on.
Add can of freon immediately.
If system is low, you don't want to run compressor dry for a long time.

Ok, I put in a can of 134a and it still gets warm after 5-10 minutes or so. I do not know what else to do. Alot of foggy air was coming out today, like it was a few days ago. Thanks
Personally at this point I would take it to somebody who knows A/C and has the right equipment to do it right. I don't trust putting these DIY cans in myself.
