Volvo 850 heating problem
Hello, I would like to tell you about an incident that happened to me and benefit from your experiences. I have a 1995 model 850 model vehicle;
When I power the heater fan, it does not activate and
REC and AC lights start flashing. My vehicle has automatic air conditioning.
I think there is a short circuit somewhere.
My electrician says the problem is with the fan resistor. I will find a good resistor and try it.
Have you ever had this happen before?
What should I do?
Where should I start?

The 850s do have a ballast resistor for the blower motor speed that do fail from time to time - you can access it by removing the back of the glove box if you want to remove and test. Typically the fan only runs on high (when the resistor is bypassed) or a select speed may fail (internal to the resistor).

A common problem with those symptoms is - The fan motor (when first turned on) draws too much current and the climate module shuts off power to the fan motor, then the lights flash. Solution for that is a new fan motor. Or the electronic heater fan resister is bad. Reading the codes will give you a hint maybe -

+1, given you have a 95, you should be able to read the ECC codes using the OBD1 diagnostics- the little 2x2" box front left on the engine. Just google around for which port you need to insert the jumper into (sorry don't have my manual anymore...)
