Volvo 850 MPG...what should I get and how can I improve it?
I just filled up today and got about 21mpg. Ever since inflating my tires to 31lb I've been getting around 20-21 most of the time on mileage that is mostly driving around town (typically at speeds between 25 and 40 mph).
I'm curious if there are any secrets out there to get that mpg a bit higher since I have heard of people getting close to 25 mpg in 850s even in city driving. Right now I'm using 91 octane Sunoco fuel, I keep my tires at 31lb or so, rarely drive on a freeway since I don't have any real reason to, and never use the A/C (which, like most 850 A/Cs, is broken). Also I run it on econ mode all the time and have actually never tried sport mode--I always forget that switch is there.
Any tips would be appreciated since I will be increasing my driving in January and will want some pointers on how to keep the cost down while keeping that great 850 performance intact.

- Follow scheduled maintenance (tune-up + EGR + PCV + EVAP system servicing).
- Have the wheels aligned at a reputable shop once every 3 years or 30,000 miles.
- Remove unnecessary weights (luggages, large speaker unit, 12-pack, passenger(), etc...).
- Stick to OEM parts, even down to an air filter.
- Be easy on the gas pedal.
- Follow others' advice on this forum.
