Angry Volvo 850 wagon rear window seal / weather strip...

The seals on the back glass of my wagon are messed up. The one at the top was corroded and separating. The lower one is missing a chunk and looks swollen like it's corroded as well.

So I pulled a top seal from a car in the jy the other day and that went on my car pretty easy. Looks great.

The lower one is another story. I pulled the one from the salvage yard and it was bent so I knew I could not use it. So I decided to simply pull mine off and leave it off, see if I really needed it. Well, it wouldn't come off. The right side had a bunch of silicone on it and the rest of it (except the left 3 inches that was missing) was rotted and just come off in about 100 chips. I got most of it off but there is still a lot of the inner top edge still in there. Does that window come off so I can get that seal out or should I just clean it up and touch up the scratches so it doesn't try to rust. Stupid thing did bite me.

I have a '99 or '00 XC rear hatch in storage, I want to swap them but it's gold and not black and has the XC strips and emblems on it so I didn't want to swap it until I had the money to have it painted. The nice thing about it is the 3rd brake light, very nice multi-bulb style.

Alot of times, with those rubber seals, they will perrish and be in need of replacement anyway. I would just clean it up for now, and just wait until you are able to install the new hatch and/or paint it.

Well, I finally did dig the rest of that seal out and touched up the area. Looks better than the rotted seal.

Weird I read this now. I was just touching up my seal with some 3M adhesive today. Mine was sagging a little bit and was just a visual annoyance. PS: Autozone does sell a bunch of weatherstrip rolls for an affordable price if you decide to do something custom.
