Weird issue - starts then dies
#21
It's very possible it's intermittent. There are many threads with re-start problems and you'll see in a lot of them the person ends up replacing the relay and no more problem. When cool it will close the circuit and the pump operates and the relay warms up from the electrical current flowing through it. Shut off and it will not close the circuit until it has some time to cool down.
If it happens and you carry a paperclip with you then you can pull the relay and jump the two connections to the fuel pump. If you can hear the pump run where it didn't before or it starts then pull the paperclip and try the relay again. If it's a no start you know it's the relay. Or you can just get a relay and hope that's it (sounds like it).

Always check the fuel pump relay first! Just got around to replacing it this morning.
I let the car run for about 30 minutes to warm up and then turned the car off. I tried to restart with no luck. Immediately pulled the relay and swapped with the new part and it fired right up.
Wish my mechanic would have tried this before replacing the fuel pump and MAF. $600... cough!
Thanks for the help!

The point being, when I had that issue, the wind chill was pushing -45 - and it would have been impossible to work on the car for even a couple minutes without the risk of frostbite. I love the car, I really do. But that issue really made me stop and think about things...I dunno, we will have to see.
I had 2 FPR's in my glove box now I only have 1. LOL
When I took my 4,500 mile trip last year that is only 1 part I took with me... fuel pump relay. LOL I traveled from Phoenix AZ to Raleigh NC and almost everywhere between and she fired right up every time. I now have 243,600 on it and I plan to put another 255,000 on it.
Sad to see people have issues here and there but all in all, maintain them and you'll love 'em.

Apparently yes; see post #11.
I'm w/you rspi; can't imagine even considering selling mine. I don't know what it is but really enjoy driving these cars. Esp once you have a few "refinements" (aka mods).
