Yellow T-5R For sale in Chi-town
#4
l understand only 45 sedans left in the US now, but ppl always try to take advantage of how rare the car is, l have seen ppl install new cheap brakes on a car and try to sell it double how much its worth. $6300, no matter what, down the line, repairs would be needed. now did its rarity save it from breaking? NO. $3500 would be the most l would pay for it with that kind of mileage.

I would like to know how many are truly left in the us.
I think I saw an older post from you rspi talking about the amount of T5-R's left in the us, and I think in total it was something like 430ish left.
Be nice to have an exact number. There are four in my town I know of for sure.
personally to much money for the mileage of the car, and its not even all original.

Miles means nothing with a car over 10 years old, it's all about condition. I've seen cars with 65,000 miles that was in worse shape than mine with 230,000. These motors are know to go for more than 500,000 miles. Most people will never see that. They'll get tired of the car long before that.
A couple of years ago, a guy sold one with something like 22,000 miles on it. It only sold for $9,000 if my memory serves me correct. Six months later a guy purchased one for $10,500 and had it taken directly to the dealer to have about $4,500 worth of maintenance/repairs done on it.
It's worth with someone is willing to pay for it. If the car fax is clean, you can get $6,000 - $7,000 without much effort. Besides that, there are not many cars that you can buy for $6,000 that would be a better buy.

I couldn't agree with you more on condition. I just said personally, I don't like was done on the interior, its not original and therefore wouldn't want it unless he had the original wood trim. But that's just me, I feel like the T5-R's are a really great car from that era in their original form.
I got both of my T5-R's at a steal and would maybe only pay a thousand above KBB in excellent condition.
That car today is worth 4300 by KBB in excellent condition.
I only say this because that is what most people use to get a quote for a car, and the things that matter are make/model/year/mileage/ and condition. Its just hard for people who don't know anything about cars to judge condition besides looks of the car.
A T5-R today with 22k in excellent condition would be worth around 7k, but most often then not the buyer will have to wait awhile if they want there full asking price.
Most of my volvo's are high mileage vehicles with only one of my cars having under a 100k miles on it(my Yellow), the rest are almost 200k or more. I don't believe in buying brand new cars, and I also only buy volvo's.

When i got the yellow the first thing I did was drive it over to state farm. Because of the rarity of the yellow t-5r They gave me extra coverage. If the yellow were totaled (god forbid) it would be valued a 9k.. thats fine with me..
I guess its a matter of perspective and desire.
Im going to get a yellow wagon in the next two years, Im going to end up paying 10k when is all said and done. Which is fine with me.
The guy is planning on selling to another yellow lover, and thats what it boils down to ... the love of the yellow some things you just cant put a price on.

I have never seen a yellow wagon. It's my dream car, that's why I made it my avatar. When I got my black wagon, I was planning on having it painted yellow, got the estimate and all. I was going to strip it to the bone and have a 30 year paint job done. Then money got tight real quick and I realized that there are likely less than 50 of the black wagons left. So I'm fine with mine.
I went to a Chrysler dealer today to pick up a part for a Jeep and a sales person stopped me pulling on to the lot, said he wanted to "help me get into a better position". I laughed so hard in that guys face he was looking at his co-worker thinking "what is wrong with this guy". I looked around and told him I didn't see anything in sight that would "put me in a better position".
I'd put my car up against any car on that lot in 15 years to see which one was in better shape and have a better value in 2028.

Only saw one once at the dealership in Virginia beach, when we were down there and my buddy's car had an overheating problem and we had no way of fixing it ourselves four hours away from home.
Ive seen about 10 yellow sedans in the last 5 years, but only the wagon that one time, and man, complete lost for words. Like I said in my other post i prefer the wagons over the sedans.
I was sitting behind my buddy at a light and a guy in a corvette was next to him and my buddy was in his wagon he has built up a bit. Guy in the corvette was laughing at him and pointing, when that light turned green and my buddy screamed off in his wagon, dude in the corvette's face was priceless.
And smitty I'm not rich or even middle class. I'm 23 and work two full time jobs, that's how I saved the $4500 for my yellow in 8 months. I don't receive any help from my parents besides them allowing me to keep all my tools and car parts at there house, I work on my cars in their driveway with just hand tools floor jacks and jack stands. Just love volvo's, I had 7 and now I'm down to 5, we will see how long that lasts.

There are two yellow wagons local to me in Midlothian, VA. Both in very nice shape. One guy did do a manual swap to his car, but otherwise stock. It figures, every time I see one of these cars, I just so happen to not be driving my white 850R wagon...which is rare for me NOT to be driving period.
