hot start problem
Greetings everyone. Just bought my 2nd Volvo. The first was a 1972 1800ES. still miss that car. car #2 is a 2013 C30 T5. Looked through previous posts but didnt see my specific situation. The thing starts with half a turn of the engine when cold but drive it for a while and we have starting issues. Sometimes it goes trough all three 10 second start cycles and will not fire. let it cool and she starts up with no issues. It's not throwing codes. I have the car at a local shop and they didnt see a signal from the crank position sensor.
changed the sensor and still having problems starting when the engine warms up. Any help with directions for my shop?
Thanks, Warren

Hard hot starting could be lack of rest pressure due to a bad check valve in the fuel pump - have the fuel pressures been checked? It takes a few seconds for the pressure to build with a bad check valve, when the engine is cold additional fuel is injected, masking the lack of fuel spraying.

they havent charged me anything yet and I would certainly argue with a charge for the new position sensor. Talked to the service tech yesterday and they said they were in contact with Volvo Tech. Tech said to check all the ground connections on the ECM and crank position sensor. I'll call and tell them to check the fuel pump. certainly appreciate the reply Warren

If your ECM is "bad" these folks might be able to help you. I have sent things to them to be tested (when they were diagnosed as bad) - and then my tech found the real problem.

OK, continuing the saga. Local dealer quotes $12,000.00 to replace the ECM. I tell them over the phone that the quote is 10X high. Idiot service rep tells me that the parts are expensive and there is a markup. I tell her again, check your printout. There's probably a decimal point in the wrong place, maybe an extra zero. the repy? No sir, that's the quote. I tell them dont touch a thing I'm on my way to pick it up. Back at the dealer i tell the rep again there is something wrong. As I'm driving the car home I get a call from the dealer. OOPS! the quote has 13 ECM's on the line item instead of one. Three times thou shalt deny me before the **** crows.
