Question Volvo C30 Turbo

Hi All.

I am new to this forum as i have recently bought a 2008 Volvo C30 2.0 Diesel. It is a bit of a fixer upper but looking forward tot his challenge

I think my Turbo is going as when I accelerate I hear a whining noise . There also seems to be some black smoke coming from the exhaust.

So my question is: Should i get a new refurbed turbo or is it a job that someone can do themselves with buying a kit to replace all parts in the current turbo?

Thank you in advance.

The whining noise you hear is the bearings in the turbo as it spins up due to incorrect oil or old oil in the car , you need to change the oil ASAP , the black smoke does happen on normal Due to the DPF but if all the time its a failed turbo , oil gets past the seals

Thanks Richard. Will get the oil checked in the turbo. I did get the car serviced with a major service.

Is it an easy job to get replacement parts and change the moving parts and seals in the turbo?

No a failed turbo is expensive and you cant do it at home and 99.9 % cant do it , at a dealer will probably cost more than the car is worth as they replace with new , the turbo can be reconditiond at a specialist depending on how badly its damages , if it is the turbo and you can take it out send to a turbo specialist and they will let you know , a failed turbo gives a lot of smoke like someone behind you cant see the road
