Hi all – I have a 2001 C70 convertible that was given to me by a family member. I have replaced the heater core, changed all the fluids (oil and filter, transmission fluid, coolant, brake fluid, and power steering fluid), and charged the a/c (now blows cold). The convertible top has worked great for the past few weeks, the other day when I put the top down, it did not fold properly and the hardcover could not go down all the way. I raised the top and got it to fold correctly, but the hardcover still would not close completely. After some inspection, I noticed the latch mechanism was closed/locked even though the hardcover was open – see photos. Now the top does not close completely as the hardcover does not lock in place. I disconnected the “locks” to inspect; I could only move it slightly.
From the photos, you can see how the hardcover is partially open and the lock mechanism.
Any suggestions on how to free/release the locks?
Thanks Hardcover still open Lock mechanism. Hard cover opens fine Lock mechanism.
You should be able to manually unlock these by rotation of the little (half circle) located in the truck, I believe you turn it counter clockwise, there is a tool included with the car, usually in the glove box that is used to close the top manually. Or a large flat screwdriver will do, I have seen this happen when the top gets stuck going down into the trunk cavity.
