Default 2006 C70 receiver din size?

Hi, guys.

I have purchased a 2006 C70 and it's being shipped to me. Although I understand the Dynaudio system is very nice, I need a receiver that allows me to play MP3s from a flash drive, so I'm replacing the receiver head unit. Does anyone know the size/specs for a replacement receiver? It looks like a double din head unit, just guessing, but not sure of the dimensions.

Thanks in advance!

-Brian

The single cd in dash unit is single DIN size, unsure of the multi dash changer size, but I would think they would be similar in size. The radio trim piece for the waterfall dash is for the info screen and the cd slot only. Modification of this piece would need to be done for any non factory replacement. Plus complete rewiring of vehicle to get the speakers to work.

Ah, thank you for the info. I was afraid of something like that.

I wonder if anyone has successfully done an upgrade or modification... I hate when they integrate the head unit and other systems in the car.

Many people have upgraded the factory system. Fiber optic setup has been out since 03.

I'm lost when you say "fiber optic setup." Can you elaborate, maybe point me to someone who has done this sort of work?

Means that your traditional stereo setup is not on the vehicle you ordered. All the stereo components communicates through a fiber optic network. Factory amplifier output and speakers are the traditional type. Just means you need to run wires to the each speaker or get the connections at the amp outputs.

Ohhh, I see. So if I replace the receiver I'd need to run new wiring! But then you've still got the problem that other controls are built into the receiver. I guess the only solution is to add another receiver and run the wiring to the speakers, but wow, I hate that idea.

Lower controls you would still need. Dealer would have to program out the factory radio, you can't just remove it.

I would approach the original problem in a different manner. There must be a way to "fool" the original head unit into thinking that a CD changer is installed. You can then plug in an iPod or something similar to play your digital music. That has to be a lot cheaper than adding an entire new system. Just a thought...

Thank you guys for the info. It's a pretty nasty situation, I think. I'd definitely prefer to remove the factory receiver, no matter how good it is. If it were just a matter of buying a new receiver, would be no problem at all, but looks like I'm essentially stuck with the CD player. That's not catastrophic--I will just burn my own CDs. (Hopefully, it'll play homemade CDs!) It's unfortunate, but not the worst situation that could be.

Anyway, thank you guys so much for your advice!

You can if you have the multi disc dash changer, adapter is the gateway 500 by Dension. Costs approximately 500$ to make an Ipod work. 06 models outside the US market have the miniplug input in the center console to add an mp3 player, 07 US models have this feature.
