AC blows warm on highway

My AC is cold as ice driving around town but when I get on the highway it definitely warms up. I am getting cold air but nothing like on surface streets. This mainly happens when the RPM exceeds 2200. I've had the AC recharged and it didn't fix the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions not involving a complete compressor replacement. Thanks.

a common issue for older Volvos is the compressor clutch gap is too large. Once it gets to about .8mm the clutch slips, heats up and then the solenoid loses its grip and no more AC chill. Clutch cools and magically it starts working again.
Google for "Volvo AC clutch gap" and you'll probably find some instructions on how to reshim the compressor clutch back to .3 mm or so.
