I recently installed new belt tensioners. This is what happened...
2008 C70. Have had nothing but problems with the tensioners, belts, etc. Early on, replaced both serpentine belts due to wear. Weeks later some road debris took a chunk out of inner belt (of course). Jacked it up, dealt with rounded out Torx bit hole in both tensioners again. Replaced both belts, why not ...
A year later the inner tensioner gives out (of course). Replaced both of them, why not. Round out both Torx bit holes on both tensioners... As they were apparently manufactured to do because I have done it to every tensioner I try to relieve tension on. What a piece of **** design. I mean wtf are we doing here??
Anyways, got new belts, new tensioners... This is surely the last time I have to remove the tire and jack it up and take two belts off and two broke *** tensioners right ... Wrong.
So hear and feel something wrong under hood. Pop hood while running to see my alternator shaking violently and I cut it off. Come to find the eyelet that is coming off of the engine block that the alternator screws into so it can counteract the belts constant pressure and inclination to throw the alternator forward, has sheared off and there is also a hairline crack running across that whole piece of aluminum. See pictures.... So what to do now... Welp looks like my only real option is to fabricate a bracket that will bolt into the block using one or all of the three existing bolts and then drill and tap a hole for the bolt that was holding the alternator in place can now be bolted into this bracket.
