I am looking to improve the stereo , what items and where installed have been used. HOW GOOD are the stock speakers ?

You cannot purchase any better speaker.............They are a premium brand. You can obtain more info by searching this site.

I've got an '06 C70, and I've had some great audio systems in the past. These speakers seem top notch to me. I would not replace them. The receiver, however, I'd like to replace, but the '06 model is stuck with it as well, due to the climate control and other functions being built into it.

So essentially, if your system is like mine, you're stuck with the factory audio.

 

i have a 2000 C70 with the dolby surround and even though the correct head unit isn't in to use the dolby system or the speakers on the dash, but i'll tell you this, every sound system i build for any car i own in the future will be built as closely in the image of this system as i can get it. i'm gonna try and improve the factory system in my C70 one day by adding more drivers and highs in the convertable speaker locations found behind the panels and rear seats and adding a sony head unit that is dolby capable.
