Default C70 Steering wheel shakes at 50-55mph

Has anyone experienced a shake in the steering wheel around 50 to 55 mph?I have 17" rims and tires and it is a 2000 C70. I had the front tires balanced but it still shakes. Above 55, 60, 70 , 80 the car rides smooth. Any suggestions on where to start?

Thanks,
Ted

I would check for an out of round tyre or one that has a belt separating. Is this a long standing issue or has it 'all of a sudden' come on?

I bought the car used and when I test drove it I was on an Air Force base so I did not get it past 50-55. My bad. So I believe ithas been a long standing issue. I will check on the out of round tire/belt separation. Thanks for the info. Ted

I'd take it into a tire shop and have a "wobble test" done -- they'll throw if up on a jack and spin the wheels. if they see any wobble you'll probably need to have them "straightened" particularly if the are alloy wheels.
