My transmission is starting to clunk going from drive to reverse and even shifting while in traffic. I have some time before it will actually need to be replaced and want to research the feasibility of switching to a manual.

Clutch, flywheel, pedals, shifter all need to be touched.

Is there anyone who has done this successfully?

Tech has a write up for his manual swap(850 model), but since your car is an 02 you might want to follow LloydDobler's writeup on Swedespeed. His is an 04 convertible, but possibly the closest to your own, plus he has part numbers and tons of pictures in the thread, good luck.
