Default Center Console Removal

Inline5fan was nice enough to send me his spare center console hinge (as mine was broken) and now I need to figure out how to remove the cente console so I can access the fasteners for the hinge.

Anyone want to provide a step-by-step on how to remove the center console on a manual shift 2000 C70 Coupe? Thanks in advance!

Alan

Going off memory so may skip/miss some steps.
1. Remove rear seat bottom, pops out. 2 Torx screws on console
2. Pop out coin tray, be careful or you will break the retaining clips. 2 Torx underneath I think.
3. Additional Torx screws at bottom of center console pocket.
4. Pop out both the wood/aluminum trim for shifter and console
5. Console is pressure fitted against the rest of the trim and will require a decent amount of force to remove. Just make sure you get any additional screws that I did not mention.
6. It is ok to unplug anything electronic, not going to hurt anything.

Your instructions are spot on. I just got time to do this and install the hinge. I didn't remove the manual shift **** or boot so I just rotated it up enough to replace the hinge. I piece of plastic had broken off when the original hinge flexed too far. I epoxied it back on but it broke off again. I would like to fiberglass it in place from the inside so I now need to remove the center console completely.

Can someone tell me how to remove the shift **** and boot (if required) so I can pull the entire center console out? Is the shift **** just a press fit? It appears that the shift **** and boot are attached somehow too. Thanks in advance!

Manual shift **** is held on by a small white plastic ring underneath the pleather boot(bottom of shift ****). Simply pull up on boot to expose and slide down. Shifter will easily slide up and off. Boot will come off afterwards if needed.

PS. Most plastics will not bond with typical resins. Make certain to use a specific one that will hold fast, or you will be doing it again.

The care and retractable door that keeps changing you just pop off. Give a firm tug on the edges of the trim. You look at XM splice cables in faq diy and see what I mean. Its not hard but just pull.

Is the automatic, convertible center console the same?

I'm in the process of swapping an SC-916 to my S70 from a 2000 C70 vert at the junkyard, and need to get the amp and wiring harness.
