Default Cheap C70 needs head gasket...worth it?

Well, I sold my 2000 C70 convertible (aka MoneyPit) to a guy that chased me for 1 year to buy it....sucker, lol!! It was in great condition and had so many brand new parts, but he made an offer that I could not refuse.

So, since i'm a sucker for punishment, I found a 1998 C70 coupe, auto w/ 150K that the owner says MAY need a head gasket since there is oil in the water. It isn't smoking though. The car is in good condition, the price is right (like $1.5K), but is the engine toast? Does a head gasket replacement automatically mean shaving the head?

Weighing my options and not in a hurry...any feedback is appreciated.

Well it should always be checked/shaved. The head job at a shop will run about 2K or so.

So if the body is mint then a 98C coupe for less than 4K I would think that is a good deal.
