Default Convertable top- Window came unsealed

Here's my situation.

As indicated in the subject line, the back window has come unsealed from the "cloth" top. I took the car in to an upholstery/glass repair shop recommended by my volvo mechanic whom I totally trust. The quote for a new top was $2107 ( $1467 new top, $520 Labor, $120 "straps"- not certain what the latter is).

I called another shop that is located in my neighborhood who says he's been in business since 1985. This guy told me he could change the top for $1400 total, new top and labor. !!??!! Big difference in quotes. Of course I'm always up for saving money however I do want the replacement to be done right.

I need help! Does anyone have comments about this? Perhaps questions I should ask. Are there different grades of after market tops that I should look for? (btw, they are both "after market tops")

Then the thought occured to me, maybe I can shop for a top myself. Are there distrubutors that make tops available to the public? If so, any recommendations?

Lastly, is there anyvalue or interestin the old top once it's removed?i.e. resale

Any and all other commentspertaining to this that I may not have thought of are very welcome!

Joan

I haven't delt with aftermarket ones. The old one is junk once removed.
