Re-trying with clamps this time, I took more time cleaning the canvas side this time, it sticks to the glass perfectly using the glass primer but the canvas seems to be the side letting go. I did the first section and it created a much smoother bead across the edge of the window and the glass so we'll see.

 

I have succeeded in fixing my roof. I used GE 5200 adhesive (incredibly strong marine adhesive available from Westmarine).

At the time I used it the top had shrunk so much that there wasn't much overlap so I briged the gap with nylon webbing 1" wide (any fabric store).

18 months and no problems.

54200 is available in white and black. It is used to glue the top and bottom togeather of fiberglass boats. It takes time to dry so I taped the repair with easily removed blue baskind and gently braced it.

JC807 - Do you have any pictures of what you did with the nylon webbing?

You may be onto something and that is ... failing to waterproof the top frequently enough ... it gets wet in the AM, and HOT in the sun which eventually make the top shrink just enough that it won't stay glued no matter WHAT you use on it when it tries to stretch it too tight. I think the heat here in the south is a big issue for us, since it let go in a number of places around the window, but if there isn't a ton of stress it remains glued. Thoughts anyone?

 

You should really try to sew it with a sewing awl mine has held up well.
