Engine Overheating !!!

Engine Overheating !!!
I have a 2001 C70 T5 GT. It has suddenly developed a problem with overheating. Cant seem to find a leak in the coolant system but the engine overheats to the point where the coolant escapes by clouds of steam from around the reservoir filler cap. I've had a look through the forum and although there are some similar issues, I can't find one which describes my cars problem. The fan works and I cant find any obvious leak. Could it be the thermostat? and if so where is it? Any advice would be much appreciated !!! Thanks in Advance.

RE: Engine Overheating !!!
Hi tech,
thanks for the quick reply! I'm almost sure its the thermostat after your confirmation.
Just nipped out in it again 'round the chippy (5 mins away). It's been about 3 hours since I got it back home after its little clown car impression, and the engine was still warmish. The temp got to whats usually normal (half way) within a minute or 2 but never rose any higher. This happened before I got to the chippy. 3 mins later I was on my way back home again and the temp needle stayed nice and steady all the way home. It may be sticking before it seizes completely, but I feel a lot better with a second opinion.
Cheers tech!
BTW, am I right in thinking that the thermostat is housed in the fitting that joins the block from the main coolant hose?
thanks again!

RE: Engine Overheating !!!
Hi Tech,
Just a quick message to let you know that the thermostat has now been replaced and my T5 is running great.
Managed to get the coolant drained off without jacking up the car (I have a gravel drive and wiggled underneath !). I drained it from the radiator bleed valve. I replaced the thermostat as advised and it now works perfectly.
Took a bit longer than 20 minutes but turned out to be an easy job.
Thanks for all your help !
