Default Engine too far gone?

I overheated the engine. Compression is 114, 35, 34, 39, 84, cylinders #1 - #5.
Likely the overheating warped the head and or block?
I am willing to take the head off and investigate.
Do any of you have experience such that would indicate that I am wasting my time?
Maybe the engine is too far gone?

Thanks!
Pete

The head will be warped. A machine shop will need to straighten the head not just resurface. Because the top of the head is warped also (where the cams ride)

Usually just a head job is needed. Rarely have I had a Volvo engine that damaged the pistons - and the 2 I remember were red block cars. I had melted pistons and the other burned oil and kept setting knock sensor codes. But have not seen that with the aluminum block cars - have seen severely melted spark plug covers - and those just needed a properly repaired head (and a used spark plug cover!)

hoonk:
Thank you for your very informative response. I will check around town to see if a task such as straitening the head is doable.
This is encouraging
Thanks again
Pete

you can also check out car-part.com to price out used replacement heads (which if your's is too far gone and you buy one, my suggest is to have a machine shop check out for flatness.)

Thank You
I will do such.
I have pulled heads on simpler cars (VW water cooled, English cars), but this twin cam job will be a challenge for me.
Looking forward to it!

if you decide to swap heads on your own, there's a few areas to pay attention to. 1) you will want to check out a couple of special tools that presses the head into place correctly and a cam lock tool.

Example:
Amazon Amazon

2) the VVT gear(s) needs to be rotated to set the timing. (its pretty easy to be "one notch off" if you are not careful). Check out some vids on Youtube to get a better understanding of the process. I'd also suggest seeing if you can get a VIDA CD for instructions, torque specs etc. There's usually a copy (theftware?) on eBay...
