Default Fuel Filter Replacement

Hello everybody. I've been having some weird starting issues with my car recently, so I decided to change the fuel filter, as that is just about the only thing I can fathom that would cause it, so I'm going to do a writeup on how I changed the filter just for the common knowledge of all.

First thing's first, the only tools you will need for this job are a ratchet and a 12mm socket. You may want to wear eye protection as well. Also, you could opt to have a container to catch the gas that leaks out so you can reuse it.

So, to start off, remove the fuel cap to relieve some of the fuel pressure in the lines.

Here's a good idea of where to look for the fuel filter under the car. Note the passenger side back wheel closest to the camera.

Using your 12mm socket, undo this bolt on the bottom of the fuel filter bracket.

Now you simply have to pull the lines off. I really like the design Volvo has with these lines. There's no screws, no pins, no connections, just simply pull-off, and press-on.

NOTE: YOU WILL LEAK GAS AT THIS POINT, BEWARE OF FUEL SPRAY!

After you have removed both fuel lines, just slide the filter out of the bracket and compare to the new filter to assure you have the right part.

Note the "FLOW" arrow on both filters. Be sure to install the new filter with the flow arrow pointing towards the front of the car (as gas flows FROM the tank in the back TO the engine).

After you've pressed the fuel lines back on, install the bolt back into place. It may be somewhat difficult as you have to press the bracket down towards the bolt in order to seat it correctly, just keep trying!

And that's all there is to it!

When you go to start your car remember that it may take a few times before it cranks up, you did, afterall, lose all of your fuel pressure during the install.

Seems like it's close to these instructions:
Fuel filter replacement instructions on a 1998 Volvo S70 GLT

A lot of things on your car as like the things on the 850. You can check the DIY thread there.
