Exclamation How do I reset engine light?

Anyone know the easiest way to reset the engine light on a 01' Volvo C70 2.3 litre Turbo? Can you take off the negative terminal on the battery to do this effectively? If so for how long? Another question, will the light go out on it's on after it senses the problem has been corrected?

The reason I ask is because you hear so many ways to do it without a hand held code reader to reset the computer engine light. I have heard just take off the negative and then positive terminals from battery and then reconnect positive and then negative terminals.

Disconnect the positive battery cable for about 10 minutes, reconnect it and your computer is reset, you should have to reprogram the time if it reset, if the check engine light is still on you didnt leave the cable disconnected long enough. It wont hurt to leave it disconnected for 15 or more minutes so if you have the time leave it off for a bit longer. If the check engine light comes back on after driving it for a bit it means you still have an error thats setting of the check engine light. This reset trick will only keep the CEL off if you've fixed the problem it senses.
