Default Interested in a 2001 C70

Hello everyone, I was hoping I could get some help. I'm looking at a 2001 C70 conv. I'm not sure if it is a HT or LT but under the hood it said it was a 2.319 cu. displacement on a tag under the hood. Here is what I no about the vehicle, it came into a shop and had the computer (I don't no which one, but its under the hood towards the front right side when you look under the hood) and transmission replaced. It has 123,000 miles the body is in great shape and the top looks new. The interior is in O.K. condition, the seat are not torn, but there is lots of signs of wear, scuff marks and a couple of small tears not all the way thru the leather. My questions are as follows. How reliable are these cars? I've read in just the last hour on this forums and google that they're prone to rattle, leaks and noise from the windows. And the ETS or some call it a ETM have issues. What about the gas mileage for city/hwy and does this model require premium fuel only? And how do I no what model this is HT or LT? And what would you think this vehicle might be worth? When I looked under the hood the motor area looked new. Oh and he said that the person just did some other major service on it. I don't no the vehicles backround other than this is a lien vehicle that a mechanics shop replace the computer and trans and was not paid for, thus the lien on the car. I guess I can run the VIN with carfax and see what it says. If everything comes up clean, what would be a good price?

Thank You

They are overall good cars. I think the 2.3 is the HPT motor.
They are common for wind noise leaks.
Not sure about price though.

I would run high test all the time.

You should average like 23MPG highway.

Well I ran carfax and it has a clean title with only 2 owners. Unfortunately I offered him his asking price and someone else he knows offered him $1000.00 more than his asking price, huh??? Thanks for all the help...

Jeez TECH, my old 2002 c70 can obtain 34+ on the hi-way. I use only Shell hi-test and of course, run Bosch platinum single electrode plugs. The speed is set at appx 72 MPH on cruise. This is during the daytime with no lights on. It gets appx 30+ on the road in the winter. I have a lot less miles on my Volvo than you do................somewhere south of 40,000. Lastly I use BMW's Castrol synthetic oil.

But remember mine are a 95 and 96 one has 100K more miles than your C-70 does and the other has 200k more miles.

Plus we werent 100% light on the foot all the time either.

But that is still good for me!! LOL

.............and I'll bet Panty eater 'ain't' easy on the pedal either!! Actually what I was attempting to do was get under your skin as I know you aren't a fan of the Bosch plugs that I use. I too found that there is a big difference with the MPG on the 2.3 engine with the speed you hold. Much over 70 MPH and the turbo starts spooling up and the mileage suffers. P. Eater, what were the symptoms that caused you to change the coils?

Sorry but I do like the Bosch plugs I am running them in both cars.

But sometimes in the middle of the night on the clear open highway you tend to cruise at about 90 or so.

In the wifes car I had once on a long trip where I was forced to run a slower speed I had gotten about 450 miles out of a tank of gas on her car.

Also I am not really ruffled that easy!!! LOL

i just noticed that some of my coils were cracked almost all the way over the top, but non of the oil was coming out of them yet. Tech showed me how to inspect them, so i just swapped the worst ones out for the best ones i had.

i found a puddle of oil in cylinder #5 like alot of oil. i cleaned that out with brake clean really good. all the plugs were either rusted or frozen in the holes![:-]these must have been the original plugs.

and for the record i'm not easy on my C70, not one bit. on my trip to and from NY i was doing no less than 90 MPH! with some burst to 120 here and there. i made it from FL to NY in 14 hours breaking my old record by 2 hours. still i pulled 430+ miles to the tank.

i'm sure i'll get more miles to the tank once i built my 3" exhaust and replace this bad cataylist i keep getting codes for.

Amazing, I had the same issue and posted the pics. The cavityhas remained dry to date. Odd that this accumulation of oil didn't even cause a misfire!

mine was causing a missfires here and there, but i bet it was from that pool of oil and from some of my coils being cracked and possibly arching. i'm glad i made my vented valve / coil cover, they should stay extra cool and last way longer.

I'll bet you guys wern"t doing 90 through Georgia. Those black and tan mustangs are every where. They remind me of Doberman pinschers..............they're always ready to attack! Years ago I was driving an IECO Vega through Louisville at 130 and the state police set up a road block. I wasn't treated very well at the Louisville "reception" facility.
