Lens Replacement (How to access bottom clips)
Hello,..I'm a newbie here and also a newbie to the Volvo scene. Just recently acquired an 01 C70 convertible. It had a hole in the passenger side headlight lens and after purchasing a new lens,...I see that it is seemingly IMPOSSIBLE to simply change this out. I cannot for the life of me see where I can get to the bottom few clips without taking the whole bumper off. (I'm NOT going to do that just for a lens!!) Ialso realize that finding a repair book for the 01 C70 is about equally impossible too! Can somebody out there guide me through this? I found a photo that shows taking off the wiper by the headlight to access a cover strip thus exposing the clamps. This is not valid for my 01 as the bumper is all one piece and there is no strip behind the wiper. The headlight is seated in this one piece bumper. I think I need to get the whole headlight out to access the bottom clips. The book for the car shows a metal clamp that I need to depress with a screwdriver to allow the headlight to be freed. Again,..there is no metal tab or clip that I can see that matches the photo.
Anyone? Thanks for helping someone who apparently is struggling with the simplest of tasks!!!

Hi and welcome.
1. Open your hood.
2. Take a socket wrench and a 10mm socket.
3. Remove the three bolts holding the headlight in place. These are located in the back of the headlight housing.
4. Remove the wiring harness to the headlight assembly.
5. Take the headlight assembly out fully.
6. Now remove the three bottom clips.
7. Take out old lens.
8. Put in new lens.
9. Put clips back on.
10. Reinstall headlight assembly and tighten the three 10mm bolts down and plug the wiring harness back in.
11. Close your hood. Check to see if your lights are working to be safe.
Your done.

3M sells a kit to place over your lens which should keep those pesky stones from shattering your lens. eBay sellers can help you with this. I have used these flexible devices on multiple autos over the years and have yet to lose a glass lens to a flying stone.

I did manage to get the headlight out, but that first bolt is a real booger! It took 25 minutes just to get it off. I had to use my fingers and not the wrench to put the socket into the bolt and try and loosen it with my hand because no socket wrench can fit in there with the socket attached to it. What a nightmare! There has to be a tool that allows for a 10mm socket and also fits in there while on the wrench. I even found a wrench that requires no extension for the smaller sockets and it was still too long to fit in there. Crazy! Thanks for the info though.
If it is anything like my 1999 s70 awd headlights which more then likely it is. It was difficult but I was able to loosen them all with the socket wrench more then most of the way.
Funny,..putting it all back was so much easier!!!!! Funny how that works!!!!!!
Now to only get the cracked woodgrain trim off of my console so I can replace it!!!Another topic for another day!
