Default New pads and rotors won't fit

I'm stumped.

Ordered replacement front rotors and front pads for my 2000 Volvo C70 hardtop 2.4L turbo 17in wheels.

Can't get pads onto the rotors once seated into calipers. I compressed the caliper piston all the way in. They're too thick so rotor won't sandwich in.

I don't want to shave the pads and have asbestos flying around.

Went to Napa, Autozone, Advance all gave me the same thickness pads. They're too thick to get onto the rotors.

Checked the caliper on the other side and they look the same. 280mm rotors old and new same

The distance between piston and inside of caliper outer edge is 2.75". The pad-rotor-pad total thickness is 3.125"

Have done so many brake jobs on types of vehicles. What is the issue?

Does C70 use different calipers than V70?

good news is most brand name brake pads are abestos free (can't say the same for aftermarket import brands). What brand rotor did you get? What brand pad did get? I've had to use a block/clamp to get calipers fully retracked flat but it sounds to me like you may have bought an incompatible part. Have you measured the old and new rotors?

I tend to buy from Volvo friendly online stores - FCP Euro, IPD USA and for my dealer parts Tascaparts.com. I'd start by going to Tasca and finding the OEM part number specific to your car then see if the rotor and pads cross reference. Personally I tend to stick with Brembo, Zimmermann or Bosch rotors and after trying different pads I am back to using genuine Volvo organics. Also measure your old and new rotors - Volvo of that vintage had 280 mm, 300 mm and 316 mm on various models and the only difference is the caliper carrier (the bracket).

Also, do the pads have a glued on anti-squeal pad? that my add some mms so you may want to consider going to OEM.

The pads are Nakamoto brand appox 3/4" thick from end to end. Removing the skid pad won't give enough needed clearance.

I don't want to grind away the brake pads because possible asbestos

The rotors are TRQ brand approx 1" thick. The old rotors are apprx 7/8" thick. I can't get the new pads around the old rotors even. The TRQ rotor box says "Direct OE replacement"

I will try calling Tasca on Monday.

Thanks,

Allen
