Usually the door latch assembly is bad. There is a part inside that breaks.
Bad part is the entire window regulator assembly has to come out. That is a pain to remove it to only replace the lock assembly.

Default C70 Window Regulator/Door Latch....

As I understand it, these window regulators are a pain to remove and replace. Getting them set up properly and adjusted correctly is quite an undertaking. I don't know if an indepedent shop (if they know what they are getting into) would be willing to take a crack at it.

The door latch mechanism seems to be a dealer item. FCP Groton doesn't list one for the C70. I found one on-line with a dealer price of $227 and the on line price was in the $150 to $170 range.

Hopefully, this will help you budget for the repair.

Cheers,

Ted

I forget exactly what we charge for it but I think it is like $900.00 parts and labor to replace it. But I have not done one in like a year. I also do not keep track of prices that much.

Default Door latch repair vs. tranny replacement....

Actually a tranny replacement on your car wouldn't be that bad....providing you can find a good used tranny. The tranny from my parts car went into Dave's other C70. $150.00 for the tranny and $600.00 in labor and he's got her back on the road. So, a tranny going out in one of these cars isn't fatal. The trans in the C70's are the same as the S70's and 850's, so finding one isn't all that difficult.

It seems the parts that are unique to the C70 are the more costly repairs. I.E. replacing the door latch and having to remove an over complex window regulator to do the job. The sunroof is also C70 specific and hence very expensive.

On the flip side, much of the mechanicals for the C70's are shared with the much more common S70/850 and parts are plentiful and no more expensive than other European marques.

Cheers,

Ted

Yes the dipstick is compatible with other S/V70 models/years. Eeuroparts has the vehicles it fits:

http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartD...spx?id=9497557

Their price for it is $14.90 and that includes shipping UPS Ground. I ordered from them not that long ago and was very happy with their prices, and the speed of shipping items. They are up in CT, so you will have the part in just few days. Sometimes next day.

Hope this helps.

I bought a used latch assembly for something like $60. Taking the window regulator out isn't that bad. Putting it back in and adjusting it is a pain but do'able. The secret would be to count the number of turns it takes to back out the 2 adjustment screws. Of course I got distracted and lost count when I did it, so I started from scratch...
